How To Make A DIY Wine Glass Bottom

Welcome back to our Craft DIY blog series!! This week we will be getting creative and giving the bottom of our wine glasses some character. This is a fun one where you can really get creative and make the glass more YOU!! We will be going over what's needed, the steps to take and any tips and ticks along the way. Let's go!

First let's talk about what you will need. You will need a wine glass of your choice. Some fun additives of your choice. Some popular additives are: glitter, gold nuggets or gold tiny flakes etc. Ekopel or another craft epoxy. You can get these things at your local craft store or online. 

Next you want to prep the bottom of your glass before anything. Start by sanding it smooth using 220-320 grit sandpaper. Glass will most likely be smooth so can just do a quick sand. Then cleaning it using Lysol Power. Making sure it is dry before we go ahead and get started with our project. 

From here you will want to step up newspapers or plastic furniture covering so when you pour or dip into the material it won’t make a mess. This will also allow for an easier clean up and a smooth project process. Make sure the area you have chosen to do your project on is a flat level surface that is clean with no dust or fans blowing around. Now that you're all set up let's talk about mixing.

Mix your Ekopel or epoxy. To mix ekopel pour all of Part B into A and mix for 10 minutes, rest for 5 minutes then mix for another 2-3 minutes. Make sure to scrape the sides of the container and the bottom to really get a good mix. From here you will want to pour ekopel onto the glass or can dip the glass bottom into the container. From there you can add your fun additives like glitter or tiny flakes. Can use a pencil tip or something hard to push the additives in and have a good adhere and placement.

Place your glass in a way where the bottom is facing up and allow it to dry for 24-36 hours. Also ensure that the room temperature is set to 72-75 degrees, no lower or higher or the material may have a hard time drying and leveling. Then enjoy!!
